Thailand National
Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission board approved an additional 2.8
million households vouchers for the purchase of set-top box or a TV with
digital-system tuner.
The original plan,
which was announced not long ago, was to distribute coupons worth Bt690 to about
23 million registered households to buy either a digital TV set-top box or a TV
set with a digital TV tuner. Now with this new additional plan, the total is 25.8
million households.
The voucher distribution
started on October 10.
According to NBTC
secretary-general Takorn Tantasith, the households in question are those with
no registered address or registered owner but with residents.
The National
Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission yesterday also agreed that
vendors of digital television sets in the voucher scheme would be allowed to
reduce their warranty period to one year from the original two years.
