Brazilian DTH operators may have to adopt hybrid boxes

Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) presented a proposal to amend the Regulation of the Conditional Access Service in order to compel DTH (satellite pay-TV) operators to adopt the model of hybrid boxes for receiving FTA signals, reports Teletime. Anatel wants pay-TV operators via satellite to give equal treatment to all local channels. The measure is controversial because operators have preferred to enter into direct agreements with broadcasters to include the signals of stations directly into the line-up of their satellite platforms. The problem is that in these trade agreements DTH operators choose those channels of greatest interest to the subscriber, which means primarily those produced by broadcaster Globo.
