Bayerische Rundfunk German organizations (BR) and the Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT) invited manufacturers of televisions testing HEVC encoders and DVB-T2 in Munich, on 8-10 December 2014. Manufacturers have the opportunity to test the HEVC with various image formats such as 720p / 50, 1080p / 50 or 1080i / 25, with different rates - from 2.5 to 4 Mbit / s.

These tests are part of comprehensive preparation for the transition to Germany for higher compression standard in order to make better use of the available bandwidth. In addition, in 2017 in Germany, the new standard will be implemented DVB-T2 . Currently in the Munich area are being tested this technology.

HEVC codec is a more efficient successor of the MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 codecs, allowing terrestrial broadcasting in HDTV and Ultra HDTV resolution, provides superior video quality and up to twice the data compression as the previous standard.

DVB-T2 HEVC set-top box (STB) is meant to be the mainstream in the future of STB market. As a leading STB supplier in China, SDMC launched the first OTT + DVB-T2 HEVC STB DV7904-T2. It combines DVB STB and OTT STB, and it supports HEVC decoding. It is designed for telecom operators and broadcast operators, as it supports HbbTV, DRM and CAS.
