TVs got way too complicated as different TV makers have adopted different operating systems. Google has its own Android TV platform, Samsung has Tizen, LG has Web OS, and Panasonic has Firefox OS. Thought they differed in OS yet all promoting the capable of showing 4K content. Set-top box, besides being promoted the capable of 4K, introduces new stuff.

DISH launches industry first with 4K Ultra HD Joey
DISH Network’s new set-top box is called 4K Joey. It has a remote with touchpad and voice control. With the launch of the 4K Joey, DISH is the first pay-TV provider to offer a set-top box that supports all Ultra HD televisions equipped with HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2..

Sagemcom Unveils Advanced 4K STB
The company shows its 4K UHD HEVC STB during CES 2015. It delivers crystal-clear videos in Ultra High Definition, with 8 million pixels per image and 60 frames per second. The product can also support OTT services. It integrates of Android Lollipop OS, so it can bring the Android TV experience to the consumer by accessing to millions of Android applications.

Razer Debuts Android Set-Top Box That Streams PC Games to TV
Razer’s new tiny box is called Razer Forge TV, and it runs the Android TV platform. It’s like any other set-top boxes; you can use it to watch movies and shows. What makes is newly different is that you can also connect wireless controllers and use it to play games.

Canon launces a set-top box for viewing images and videos from Canon camera on HDTV
SeCanon’s new set-top box comes with an internal 1TB hard disk and 1080p output via HDMI. It can ingest images and video via Wi-Fi from select Canon cameras, or from any device via Secure Digital or Compact Flash memory.


SDMC also presents the CES 2015. But being an ODM/OEM company, SDMC is not popular name like Dish or Sagemcom. In CES 2015, except 4K OTT set-top boxes and 4K hybrid set-top boxes, SDMC also bring its customers some 1080P H.265 set-top boxes and 1080P H.264 set-top boxes.
