Media Broadcast is planning a soft launch
of its DVB-T2 multiplex for the first channels, including public as well as
private stations, in conurbations in the spring of 2016, Chief Commercial
Officer B2B Holger Meinzer told TV Digital. UEFA men's football matches from
France will be broadcast in HD. Regular operations will start in the first
quarter of 2017 and the switch to DVB-T2 is due to be completed across the
country by mid-2019.
Meinzer announced that 50 TV channels in HD
and SD – about twice as many as now – will be available on the new platform.
DVB-T2 will also be available in regions where DVB-T is not yet available.
Facing the new TV and video opportunities through the internet, the new
platform is conceived as a hybrid offer where traditional television can be
combined with additional channel bundles. The existing Multithek will be
continued within the DVB-T2 offer.
In order to receive DVB-T2, users need a
suitable television set and digital receiver as well as a CI+- interface for
encrypted programmes. Media Broadcast will discuss the specifications and a
special identification mark for such devices at a roundtable with the State Media
Authorities so consumers can recognise that devices are suitable by a logo. The
price for a monthly subscription to the terrestrial services have not been set
yet but Meinzer said they would be in the single-digit euro region.
