"Teracom's terrestrial digital
broadcasts reach the majority of households in Sweden and Denmark,"
explained Håkan Axén, product manager at Teracom Group. "We are
dedicated to offering our customers the highest quality viewing
experience and are pleased to demonstrate UltraHD services powered by
Broadcom and delivered by Boxer TV, which has more than 900,000
subscribers in Sweden and Denmark."
Broadcom chipsets
support the advanced high efficiency video coding standard (HEVC), a
standard that aims to reduce video bandwidth usage by 50%. The UltraHD
demonstration with Teracom and Boxer TV is received by Broadcom's
BCM3461 DVB-T/T2 front-end receiver with integrated tuner and decoded by
Broadcom's BCM7252 multi-HD/UltraHD reference platform, which displays
2160p HEVC streams over DVB-T2.
"Our collaboration with
partners such as Teracom and Boxer TV validates growing interest in the
application of HEVC technology to terrestrial broadcasting in 2014 and
beyond," said Aidan O'Rourke, Broadcom's senior director of set-top box
marketing. "It also demonstrates how the DVB-T2 standard can be further
leveraged to deliver the highest picture quality for off-air viewing
audiences."
H.265 hardware decoding and 4K UHD are hot
topics right now. The future of video would be 4K or even 8K. Operators
want set top boxes with high-end features like 4K while cost-effective
entry-level STB is needed. SDMC DV7810-T2 is Hybrid DVB T2 set top box
with 4K UHD playback and HEVC hardware decoding.
