SDMC Newest Products Support Conditional Access System
SDMC all newly published products support Conditional Access System (CAS). A set-top box (STB) is a device that turns the source signal into content that can be displayed on TV or other display device. Conditional access System (CAS) or Conditional access (CA) is the protection of content by requiring certain criteria to be met before granting access to content. It is a technology used to control access to television services to authorized users. Usually, we can see there is a small card in set-top box. The small card gives authorization for decrypting the transmitted programs.
For viewers, CAS enables them to watch only what they want to watch, or say what they subscribed. Viewers can save the time and money on the programs they do not interested in.
For TV operators, the foundation of a successful pay TV operation lies in having a best-in-class CAS to protect the operator’s content. So when TV operators choose STB suppliers, the support of CAS is a key factor. Thus, knowing the importance of CAS in STB, SDMC’s all latest STB support CAS, including both OTT STB and Hybrid STB that compliant with DVB-T2, DVB-S2, ISDB, ATSC, DMB-TH, and DVB-C.
There are many companies that can provide competing CAS. As far as we know, Novel-Supertv, Verimatrix, and Conax are among the most commonly used CA systems. TV operators in different regions have different prefers for CAS and set-top boxes. Therefore, set-top box suppliers should provide as many options as possible for TV operators. Taking SDMC as an example, TV operators can choose different CAS types, OTT STB types, DVB standards, DRM types, and so on.
